Argument - May 12

Just like yesterday's bell ringer, provide a piece of data, the warrant (reasoning), and a reservation for ONE of the following claims:

We should be able to wear pajamas to school
The driving age should be 12
Parents should give a $100 allowance to each child per week
The lunch room should have a Taco Bell and McDonald's
School should be all year round but have three week vacations periodically throughout year
School should only be through tenth grade

  1. DATA: We should be able to wear pajamas to school.

    WARRANT: Because we wouldn't be as tired if we just rolled out of bed and came to school.

    RESERVATION: We could just go to bed earlier so that we can get up in time to get ready for school and still have enough sleep the night before.

  2. The lunch room should not have a Taco Bell or McDonald's.

    DATA: Consuming Taco Bell and McDonald's everyday is bad for your well-being.

    WARRANT: Allowing american youth to consume Taco Bell and McDonalds's each and everyday would not only ridiculously increase the average weight of the students, but would, overall, make students unhealthy from the bad greasy foods.

    RESERVATION: The fact that fast food may keep you awake and more alert during class.

  3. The lunch room should have a Taco Bell and McDonald's

    DATA:Fast food would give you a greasy caffeinated boost of engery for the rest of the day

    REASONING:The McDonalds burger with the least amount of calories is the plain Hamburger with 250 of them. These calories are enough to boost you through the rest of day along with a caffeinated soft drink.

    RESERVATION: Eating fast food on a regular basis cases long term health effects like obesity.

    Warrant: Kids would be able to get out in the real world earlier and start their own lives.

    Reservation: Some may not be ready to be out on their own at the age of 16.

    DATA:kids in modern society need more money for the rising cost of living.

    REASONING:with the economy being so bad the cost of everyhting is rising makeing the need for teenagers to have money to buy their own stuff.

    RESERVATION:they would spend the money on things that they really dont need.

  6. DATA: Food from fast food restaurants is extremely high in fat, sodium, calories, and cholesterol, making it extremely unhealthy.

    WARRANT: Since we want our students to be healthy and productive,

    CLAIM: There should not be a Taco Bell or McDonalds in the lunch room.

    RESERVATION: Students won't necessarily buy from these restaurants everyday and eating at them every once in a while isn't dangerous.

    data. pajamas are clothing, just like any other peice of cothing.
    reasoning. people should have the freedom to were what they want. we are in america, and wearign pajamas does not hurt anybody.
    reservation. if people got to comfortable in there sleepy time clothes, and fell asleep.

  8. Data: 60% of students say they would buy their lunch rather than packing if their school contained a Taco Bell or a Mcdonalds

    Warrant: Thus if the school had a Taco Bell or Mcdonalds their annual lunch profit would greatly increase because more kids are buying their food instead of packing it.

    Claim: The lunch room should have a Taco Bell and McDonald's

    Reservation: Unless the cafeteria begins to serve food that is more appealing than these restuarants students will want to buy from the school instead of from the fast food restuarants.

    Data: Students who wear pajamas perform better on tests.

    Warrant: Students are more comfortable in pajamas and can focus more on the work.

    Reservation: Pajamas might be in violation of dress code and might be distracting.

    Data: Students forget a lot of material over long breaks

    Warrant: Students forget more information over a long summer break than a few smaller breaks during the year.

    Reservation: Students could just briefly review over summer break to keep the information fresh.

    Data: 70% of students would buy instead of pack their lunch if there were a Taco Bell or Mcdonald's avaliable.

    Warrant: Schools lunch profit would increase.

    Reservation: Fast food has extremely high amounts of sodium, calories and cholesterol Leading the way for an unhealthy lifestyle.

  12. We should only have school through the 10th grade ;

    Data ; Students wouldnt flip out as much if they only had to go to school for 10 years.

    warrant ; students would be focused more knowing that they only had 10 years instead of 12.

    reservatin ; some people arent mature enough by the 10th grade to move on to college

    RESERVATION: They could get part time jobs and stay in school, then just get a better full time job later.

    Data: Half of the student body knows what they want to do after high school by tenth grade.

    Warrant: Students could complete college and get jobs earlier so they could retire earlier as well.

    Reservation: There is essential information in 11th and 12th grade that students can't afford to miss.

  16. Data: In America, 100 percent of people believe that children should get a $100 dollar allowance per week.

    Warrant: Because all children need to learn the high life.

    Reservation: How will parents come up with this money???

    Data: When the average cost of gas, food, activities, and clothes for a typical teenager is added up, this amount comes to about $100 per week.

    Warrant: Kids need this money to fulfill their social agendas.

    Reservation: Parents would be spoiling their kids by giving them so much money per week.
